Angela P. Vargas, PhD

President Elect

Angela Vargas, Ph.D. is a Licensed Psychologist in the states of New Jersey and New York. She earned her Master's in Counseling Psychology from Temple University and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University.   Dr. Vargas is the Owner of Via Psychology, LLC, a private practice that specializes in immigration evaluations, and is also the Clinical Liaison for the Mental Health Counseling MA program at Fordham University.  She has been on the LMHANJ Executive Board since 2019 and has held different positions throughout her tenure, including Secretary, Treasurer, and Program Coordinator.

Dr. Vargas is fluent in Spanish and has experience conducting all clinical services, therapy, assessment, and supervision, with Spanish-speaking clients.  She has extensive education, training, and experience in the field of mental health across the lifespan, with communities of diverse backgrounds and resources, and in varied settings, including public hospitals and community mental health centers.  Specialty areas include treatment of mood disorders and trauma via individual, group, and family therapies, as well as psychological assessment (cognitive, academic, forensic, and personality) and comprehensive evaluations.  Dr. Vargas particularly enjoys working with adolescents and individuals navigating major life transitions and issues surrounding identity (racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation).

Perhaps most importantly, Dr. Vargas is "Mamí" to two young daughters, a role that - while challenging - she finds most fulfilling.  She enjoys reading, gardening, traveling, and as a proud Colombiana would, dancing to the rhythms of Carlos Vives, Grupo Niche, Silvestre Dangond, and Shakira.
